Abstract

The Archives of Georgetown, Delaware, businesses is the gift of Milt Chaski, Jr., who acquired the material in one "odd lot" at an auction sale. The collection consists primarily of materials related to three prominent businesses that were active in Georgetown, Delaware, at the turn of and into the mid-twentieth century: J.W. Blizzard, Layton & Layton, and the Georgetown Gas Company.

Abstract

Donald Robert (Bob) Lettis (1925-2014) was an American artist and educator who taught printmaking and art education at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston from 1966 to 1987. "Intaglio Method of Printmaking" is a portfolio handcrafted by Lettis of his manuscript instructions for creating engravings, etchings, and drypoint prints. The manual contains descriptions of seven intaglio processes and incorporates the author's own printing plates and prints as examples.

Although the compiler of this late nineteenth-century manuscript recipe book is unknown, in many instances, names and dates are attributed to the entries. The majority of the recipes in the volume are, as the title suggests, desserts and baked goods such as cakes, puddings, and breads. The remaining entries can be categorized as main dishes or medicinal receipts for treating various illnesses and conditions.

This manuscript volume is a student thesis or weaving manual prepared by J. Savey, apparently a student of Professeur F. Brocard, for a course at the École de la Salle Commerciale et Industrielle in Lyon, France, in 1914-1915. Savey’s manuscript reflects a mastering of the mechanical aspects of looms and weaving and includes 180 colorful fabric swatches illustrating patterns and finishes.

Emily C. Stump, an executive secretary at Hercules Powder Company, compiled for the company briefing notebooks of newspaper clippings which tracked military progress of Allied and Axis powers throughout World War II. She also collected transcripts of daily radio news broadcasts from stations WOR and WDEL. The World War II maps and radio broadcasts collection includes maps, newspaper clippings, radio broadcasts and militray manuals, documenting war operations in World War II.
